Just before getting on the ferry.

The four of us on the ferry to Bremerton.
The first day we got off to a late start - caught the 5:30 ferry to Bremerton (yes, 5:30pm...) and aimed to make it to Shelton by nightfall. Well, our group - Gavin and Robin on the tandem and Sander and I on our own bikes got separated (tandems have a lot of momentum going downhill).
About a half-hour later, Sander got a flat rear tire. He and I fixed it in a jiffy and got back on our bikes trying to catch up to Robin and Gavin. They texted us that they stopped at a bar that is just off the highway - but we didn't see any signs and kept riding. There are few towns or markers along the way and it was getting dark so Sander and I kept riding hoping we'd find a sign for a "pub". Well, we finally found out that the "pub" was 4 miles behind us. So, we turned around and started back in the pitch black dark at 10:00.

About a mile into our return trip, a pickup truck pulled up alongside us and asked us if we'd like a ride to the bar. Two people from the bar (Clay and ?? sorry...) overheard Robin's phone conversation with us and decided to go back to their home, get their pickup truck, and pick us up. Within minutes we were at "Lefty's" for a great sandwich and beer (MGD never tasted so good!). It's nice little oasis for bikers and travelers along Hwy 3. The owners were super nice and let us set up camp on their property. The next morning they served us hot coffee and cinnamon raisin toast (they usually open later in the day). So a big thumbs up for "Lefty's" from us - the bar is located just off Hwy 3 on East Pickering Lane (just over the hill) about 30 miles from Bremerton. Stop in if you're biking or driving by!
